About
Welcome to The Sound Doctor.
You may be here because you’re worried about your health. Maybe you’re here because someone you care for or love is ill. Perhaps your doctor has suggested you visit. Whatever your reason, you’re taking a positive step toward getting – or staying – well.
On these pages you’ll hear important, practical advice from local doctors, nurses and other health experts.
You can also hear stories from Barking and Dagenham residents who have diabetes or know what it’s like to recover from a heart attack or stroke, people who have successfully quit smoking, people who have cared for a loved one and many others. We cover a variety of conditions that may affect you and a wide range of expertise and opinion.
You can hear all of this information in several ways. If you’ve got a few minutes you can press the big PLAY button on the section you want to hear right now and just sit and listen.
Otherwise you can download all, or part, of a section that you think will be useful. This gives you the freedom to put it on to your mp3 player or phone or even on to a CD so you can listen to it on the move, wherever and whenever suits you. This option gives you the most flexibility.
All of the doctors, nurses and other medical people who appear on these pages are either recognised national experts in their field or the leading experts local to you in Barking and Dagenham and the surrounding area. They may be both. You could even be hearing from the person who is treating you!
The ‘real’ stories are from people who live in the area. You may know them as well. Their stories are here to inspire you, to give you tips and to show that, whatever your condition, you’re not alone.
All of their advice, all their knowledge is available here WITHOUT AN APPOINTMENT!
No need to worry about the things you forgot to ask, no need to worry about complicated doctor-speak. It’s all plain English here – and you can listen as many times as you like. You may find it useful to recommend the site to people you know or who care for you or live with you.
Listen to the advice on these pages if:
• Your doctor has told you that you have one of the conditions we cover
• Your doctor says you might be at risk of developing one of the conditions
• You know, love or care for someone with one of these conditions
We’ve arranged each subject area into chapters so you can dip in and out and listen to what interests you at any time.
